At this time of year, hopefully we are all still on board with our New Year’s resolutions to get fit and to make exercising a normal part of our schedule. Unfortunately, for many people they went “all-in” too fast or too hard. This is a recipe for injury, burnout and sore muscles. Done properly, and at a gradual pace, exercise can help us destress, lose weight, lower our blood pressure, and increase range of motion and mobility.
If you are not an exercise guru, starting out with a brisk 15 to 30-minute walk is very beneficial and you can intensify your level as you go along. Exercise increases circulation, improves nutrient and oxygen rich blood flow, and helps you build strength.
Remember, any jarring or ballistic movements like those in tennis, basketball and running all create airborne movements, which can lead to injury. Also, exercises or workouts like jumping rope, or other high intensity movements can rupture tendons, tear ligaments or muscles and weaken joints. If you are working out with high intensity, it’s best to consult your physician, and to have shoes fitted precisely to your specific anatomy.
One of the most common issues that’s overlooked when one embarks on a healthy lifestyle is the proper footwear.
At Foot Solutions of Estero, time and time again we see people wanting to begin a healthy exercise routine like walking, pickleball, or jogging. However, it’s super important to make sure your shoes are not worn out to help you achieve your desired physical activity. We see a decline in motivation when a person is delayed in whatever program they are starting due to an injury. When individuals are physical with new activity their joints might not be able to handle the stress. We are experts in recommending and supplying footwear to offload some of that stress, while building your endurance and strength. We encourage people to bring in their current footwear, so we can evaluate and determine if it is suitable for a new exercise routine. On top of that we want our clients to walk in proper alignment and balance. All this can be achieved with a proper fitting athletic shoe.
