Telehealth and Virtual Physical Therapy E-Visits

By Lisa Johnson, PT, DPT, OCS, WCS, CSCS

Telehealth and Virtual Physical Therapy E-VisitsCOVID-19 has left many people wondering what to do about their ongoing medical care and wellness needs. Numerous specialties are now offering telehealth visits to keep patients safeguarded from the coronavirus, and also to provide much-needed healthcare in these unprecedented times.

Total Body Physical Therapy is committed to the health of their patients and has implemented new protocols to remain connected to them throughout this crisis. In an attempt to maintain continuity of services, they are offering two new Telehealth options for those who need physical therapy.

Total Body Physical Therapy Owner, Lisa Johnson, DPT explains, “The Telehealth online treatment experience permits our physical therapists to assess your condition online (face-to-face), walk you through a physical therapy treatment approach, and provide you with exercises to follow. With our Telehealth treatment experience, you will be able to correspond daily with your physical therapist to keep us abreast of changes and improvements in your condition, while our exercise programming keeps track of your progress. Telehealth patients will be seen by either myself or Kellie Fox, PT. We will conduct your office visit via computer, I-Pad, or Smartphone. Jodi Allion, LPN, our Office Administrator, may initially contact you to take some information prior to you seeing the Provider. If you are having any pain or need to progress your home program, and want to make an appointment, contact us with a voice mail or email. We will show you how it works, answer any questions, and get you started!

“The second option we’ve implemented is Medicare E-visits. In order to protect patients and healthcare workers during these tumultuous times, telehealth is now considered a covered service by Medicare. Full face-to-face physical therapy telehealth office visits are currently NOT covered by Medicare; however, in response to the current COVID-19 healthcare dilemma, Medicare has approved E-Visits, which can serve as electronic communication between a Provider and their patient during the weeks that follow. These visits are covered by traditional Medicare carriers and can consist of electronic correspondences over a seven-day period, during which time your therapist can assess your current condition, make recommendations and outside referrals, direct self-treatment, and make modifications to your existing home exercise program. E-visits MUST be initiated by the patient and will be billed directly to Medicare in the same way that your normal visits are handled.

“During this time, we are here for our patients and those in need of new physical therapy options. We will keep all of our patients informed of any updated protocols or changes as we progress through the next few weeks.”
