DURING SAFER-AT-HOME ORDER NOT THE TIME TO SKIP DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS

DURING SAFER-AT-HOME ORDER NOT THE TIME TO SKIP DOCTOR APPOINTMENTSMillennium Physician Group, a statewide provider of primary-care is concerned Florida residents with chronic illnesses might postpone their healthcare needs during the “safer-at-home” order, potentially causing their conditions to rapidly deteriorate, making them more susceptible to COVID-19.

“Healthcare is considered an essential service and Millennium remains open during this stay-at-home order, not only to care for those affected by COVID-19 but also to care for patients who have other acute or chronic illnesses. The advancement of these medical conditions doesn’t stop during a pandemic situation,” says Millennium Chief Medical Officer Alejandro Perez-Trepichio. “Patients with hypertension, diabetes, and COPD, for example, must stay on top of their health and in regular contact with their doctor.”

The CDC and the Florida Department of Health have acknowledged that patients with chronic conditions have a higher risk of becoming infected with the COVID-19 virus and experience a higher mortality rate. “It is possible that if these patients misinterpret the stay-at-home order and disregard their health by skipping necessary appointments, their health will be put at risk. Given that recent reports indicate one quarter of COVID carriers show no symptoms, we could be in for another wave of infected patients during the stay-at-home order, if these patients mistakenly delay timely evaluation. That’s why Millennium’s medical offices, walk-in centers, labs and imaging centers remain open. Our first duty is to our patients,” adds Dr. Perez-Trepichio.

“While more than 1,000 patients a day are using Millennium’s telehealth service, MPG Connect, which connects Millennium’s patients with their physicians, sometimes it’s necessary to come into the medical office,” says a Millennium spokeswoman. “Our offices are screening potential COVID patients before they come into the office, along with following a number of other safeguards.” However, if one of our patients chooses a telehealth visit, they will see their doctor, who has their medical records on hand.

Call your doctor’s office for advice on the safest way to be seen, either in the office or through MPG Connect. Those interested in establishing with a Millennium physician can call (844) CALL-MPG.
