Could CBD be the much-awaited treatment for adults and children who have autism spectrum disorder?

CBD and AutismAutism is a developmental disorder caused by a mix of genetic mutations and environmental factors that affects 1 in 59 children utism is a developmental disorder caused by a mix of genetic mutations and environmental factors that affects 1 in 59 children in the United States; Autism Spectrum Disorders comprise conditions that may affect cognitive development, motor skills, social interaction, communication, and behavior. This set of functional deficits often results in lack of independence for the diagnosed individuals, and severe distress for patients, families, and caregivers. according to the latest survey by the Centers of Disease Control.

The characteristics of autism are particular to each afflicted individual and vary across the spectrum. Unfortunately, there is no cure for autism, but CBD has recently provided hope to many for managing the effects of this disorder. There are testimonials all over the internet by parents of children with autism who discuss the benefits of CBD, primarily its effect on seizures. The therapeutic properties of cannabis, primarily of the CBD, help alleviate some of the adverse behavioral effects of the disease, such as anxiety and epileptic seizures.

Today we have a lot of ongoing research regarding children, where the main objective is to know if this type of treatment is 100% safe, tolerable, without side effects, and effective. Every day we gain new beneficial information and success stories regarding the treatment of autism using cannabis. This is what generates hope in other parents who seek comfort and a better quality of life for their children. Always remember that before using any product derived from the cannabis plant, your doctor should be consulted.

In a study conducted at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, 60 children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) were treated with high-CBD oil for over seven months.

The results were incredible!
After the treatment period, parents answered assessment questionnaires to characterize their child’s condition. Questions were asked about behavioral changes, anxiety levels and ability to communicate.

Here’s what they reported:
• 80% of parents noted a decrease in problematic behaviors, with 62% reporting significant
improvements.
• Half of the children had improved communication.
• 40% reported significant decreases in anxiety

Hemp-based vs. marijuana-based:
Hemp-derived CBD typically has a high concentration of cannabidiol and no THC, but that isn’t always true.

Marijuana-extracted CBD, on the other hand, contains trace amounts of THC, depending on the hybrid and extraction process.

Some parents are sensitive about introducing their little ones to products that contain a psychoactive ingredient like THC. In these cases, CBD products made from hemp extract should be the go-to.

Isolates are CBD products that contain only natural cannabidiol in its cleanest purest form. Some brands may call these CBD concentrates or crystals, and can consist of up to 99.99 percent pure cannabidiol.

Full-spectrum products have high CBD and low THC content, as well as terpenes, flavoring agents, herbals, carrier oils, and other cannabinoids such as CBDA, THCA, CBC, CBG, THCV, and CBN.

Because full-spectrum CBD products have a variety of ingredients, they deliver more medical and therapeutic benefits than isolates. And that’s why they are recommended for better results.

The source of CBD is not the only defining factor. You can also consider your product based on how it’s extracted and processed.

3rd-party testing is crucial: How can you be sure that a CBD product contains what it says on the label? Because the industry itself is self-regulated, it is prudent not to take the manufacturer’s word for it.

You, as the buyer, must be on the lookout for products that have been tried, tested, and validated by 3rd-party testing labs. If the brand can’t produce a 3rd-party lab testing report or certificate of authentication, you’re better off spending your money elsewhere.

Mindful Medicinals has worked with several local children with this diagnosis. We are finding that the modality of the CBD edibles and/or the Water soluble CBD along with a CBD topical for easing stressed muscles has successfully brought relief and the ability to function through the day with a bit more ease.
