Tips for Looking Young

– By: Alina Stanciu, MD – Board Certified Eye Physician & Surgeon –

Alina K. Stanciu, MD medical director of Advanced Eye Care & Aesthetic Center is a board certified eye physician and surgeon who specializes in aesthetic procedures and has been performing them for over 10 years with excellent results. Dr Stanciu developed the European Face Lift a minimally invasive facial sculpting and lifting technique as an alternative to a traditional face lift. Here are the best ways to tackle some of the common signs of aging with different minimally invasive facial rejuvenation techniques.

“I’m noticing tiny lines at the corner of my eyes. I want to prevent them from becoming any deeper and get rid of them for good.”

Dr. Stanciu recommends:  To reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and prevent new ones from forming, I inject the area with Botox Cosmetic®. In your 20s and 30s, you should use Botox as a way to prevent crow’s feet and soften any lines. As you age Botox® cosmetic can be used to treat lines and make them less visible. Botox Cosmetic® should be repeated every 4 months.

“I feel as if my eyes give the appearance that I always look tired or angry.”

Dr. Stanciu recommends: To correct sagging or drooping eyelids and removal of excess fat a cosmetic or functional blepharoplasty or eye lid lift can be performed. This procedure can give a more youthful appearance to an otherwise older, more tired looking face. For some individuals it may remedy certain vision problems caused by drooping eye lids. In this case usually medical insurance will cover the operation.

“I’ve noticed these lines that stretch from my nose to my mouth that are making me look older. What can I do about them?”

Dr. Stanciu recommends:  Known as nasolabial folds, these unpleasant lines result when fat is lost from the area around the mouth. With age comes changes in facial fat, and this loss of volume results in nasolabial folds. Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm® and Restylane® are best for filling these lines. For patients that complain of somewhat deeper folds, I may inject the cheeks with a bit of filler too, to lift the fold.

“My lips are thin, have a lack of definition and have little lines around them, what can I do to make them plump and youthful again?”

Dr. Stanciu recommends:  Regardless of the natural shape and size of your lips, a fuller pout is a key contributor to younger looking lips. Whether you’ve always had thin lips or they’ve started to narrow over time, skinny lips, a lack of definition and lip lines called smoker lines and marionette lines are due to a lack of collagen. Hyaluronic acid based fillers, like Juvederm® and Restylane® can be injected into the lips to reshape and add volume since they attract water to the area and swell the lips internally. They work great to define the lips for a natural more rejuvenated look. Overtreatment should be avoided, and lip sculpting requires great skill and experience.

“I feel like my face is drooping and has lost volume over time. How do I get a youthful, rejuvenated look?”

Dr. Stanciu recommends:  I de-veloped a unique facial rejuvenation treatment that offers a relatively easy, safe, minimally invasive way to smooth out wrinkles, fill in furrows, plump up the hollows and correct facial imperfections. This treatment called the European Face Lift sculpts and lifts the face by combining dermal fillers with injectables such as Botox® Cosmetic in order to correct wrinkles in different ways. These cosmetic fillers such as Restylane®, Perlane®, Juvederm®, and Radiesse® replace lost volume and restore youthful contours to the skin, smoothing away wrinkles. In contrast Botox® Cosmetic relaxes the muscles that cause frown lines between the eyebrows.

How do I make the injections last longer?

Dr. Stanciu recommends:  By being proactive with anti-aging treatments which should include treating your skin with various products that enhance the treatment outcome. Step 1; Stop the production of pigment and limit discoloration. Using good sunscreen products will make the skin look less dull and worn out. Step 2; Build better collagen. Collagen is key in youthful looking skin but decreases as we age. Eating a diet with antioxidants and omega-rich foods can help keep skin healthy. Anti-aging boosters such as vitamin C triggers the skin to generate collagen while amino acids strengthen and improve collagen. The newest skin care ingredient sirtuins is also being used to stimulate collagen production. Step 3; Increase moisture to iron out lines. Well hydrated skin always looks younger and maintains the elasticity needed for long lasting results. With this in mind, I developed my own line of eye creams and skin care to moisturize the skin.
