Athletes and CBD

By Scott Graison

Wow! What a phenomenal Masters tournament. Tiger Woods shocked the world with his improbable return to golf’s elite.

Athletes and CBDOn an interesting side note, one of his luminaries, and likely his most fierce rival during his days, is Phil Mickelson. Well, Lefty didn’t quite have the run at Augusta National that he had hoped. But he has been playing much better recently. And guess what? The guy who has won 44 times on tour, including 5 major championships, has taken to something that helps, among other bodily aches and pains, his psoriatic arthritis. It’s CBD oil, and it is helping to extend his career at a prestigious level. And Phil is hardly alone.

Several athletes, both current and former, have found the healing and pain relief that CBD oils provide to be a tremendous benefit to their lives. Take for example, former NFL player Larry Chester, who played seven seasons in the league as a defensive lineman, said “CBD saved my life.” Chester said he now uses topical CBD oil to help with knee pain. And then there’s another former NFL player, who went head to head with offensive lineman trying to block him and smash their bodies into his. Cullen Jenkins excelled in the NFL for well over a decade. He was part of a Green Bay Packers team that won a Super Bowl. Jenkins uses CBD oil for anxiety and pain management. He made it very clear that he was incredibly skeptical before trying it. “I thought I was going to be high,” he said. “I thought I was going to be just tripping the same things as weed. But it wasn’t anything like that. It’s more of a mellow, calming, smooth feeling. I felt pretty good.”

If you’re familiar with MMA (mixed martial arts) and the combatants that face off, you know this is an absolutely brutal sport. Nate Diaz is a world-
renowned fighter in this somewhat barbaric sport. Every day he goes through intense workouts, getting his body into prime physical shape. Then, every few months, he’ll get into the Octagon and will get battered, whether he wins or loses. An athlete that works this hard and gets beaten up this badly, needs a lot of health supplements to stay afloat. That’s why he’s turned to CBD. In 2016, Nate Diaz showed up to his post-match press conference against Conor McGregor, smoking CBD oil from a vape pen. When Diaz was asked by the reporters about what was in the vape pen, he responded by saying, “It’s CBD. It helps with the healing process and inflammation and stuff like that. So, you want to get these for before, after the fight, training. It’ll make your life a better place.”

These dudes are just a sampling of the myriad of professional athletes who have come to realize what CBD can do to help them in preparation and recovery after battling physical opponents who want to impose their will and pain onto them. If they do it at the highest level of their profession, it should send a signal to you about how you can get through 18 holes, a tennis match, or even just a workout, and come out the other side feeling pain-free.
